Rockbridge Kids

Children and youth are valued and nurtured at our church. Each one is supported in their spiritual growth through programs and services that work together to form a pathway of discipleship. Where practical, they participate in multi-age groupings that foster the development of interpersonal skills alongside their understanding of God and his love for them.

Our programs are led by a team of staff and volunteers whose passion is working with children and youth. All have had comprehensive background checks as part of their ‘Ministry Safe’ clearance for working with children and many have careers in education and child support services or nursing. Your children's safety is of primary concern. There are always at least two people in the room with children and youth at all times.

Our Living Room has recently been refurbished to include a Children’s Break-out Space, where children of all ages relax in comfort and congregate to play before and after our worship services. The area features a collection of christian children’s books for all ages, which can be borrowed to share at home and returned at leisure.

Infants and Toddlers
Rockbridge Nursery is a safe, comfortable and stimulating environment where our youngest church members laugh and experience God’s love. Nursery Leader Ariel McAffee and her team of dedicated volunteers care for young infants and toddlers in separate areas that are fully equipped for both age-groups. Once walking, children transition to the toddler area where they participate in play-based learning activities that explore concepts linked to our church’s discipleship focus. Both care areas are located in close proximity to the Sanctuary, for easy access by parents who are attending worship services. Our Nursery runs during our Sunday Worship Service from 10am - 11am. It is also open for toddlers during our Wednesday evening program from 6pm - 7.30pm.

Children
Around age 4, children begin to transition to our Rockbridge Kids program. This program works in complementary ways to provide our children the spiritual growth and peer connection opportunities that they need to mature as congregation members. The program is designed and run by Children’s Director Helen Pelkey, who liaises each week with Pastor Eric Douglas to ensure that the focus and teaching for the children and the congregation are consistent. This supports our parents’ discussions of God with their children and is part of our vision for partnering with families in their child’s spiritual growth

Rockbridge Kids Program

During our 10am Sunday Worship Service, children can elect to participate in Rockbridge Kids - a fun and friendly opportunity to learn about God with peers.

Children start in the Service, where they participate in a ‘Children’s Ministry Moment’. They then leave for Rockbridge Kids, where they receive age-appropriate teaching. Through collaborative discussion, the children unpack key concepts, ask questions and explore possible answers. They then use a variety of media to help them identify what our weekly focus means personally for them, including:

  • Drama

  • Art

  • Craft

  • Music & Singing

  • Active Games

  • Puzzles and Sorting Activities

Children return to the Service prior to communion, which they are able to receive with their families.

The program is held in spacious, climate-controlled classroom settings that are separate from the main building and a snack is provided. Children are placed in multi-age groups. From grade 6, children are eligible to participate as Rockbridge Kids Leaders, where they work in collaboration with the Children’s Director on leadership responsibilities that support both our children’s programs and the broader congregation.

Welcome to Wednesdays at Rockbridge! We are excited to offer a fun and engaging program for kids while their parents attend the adult program.

Our midweek service is designed for children of all ages, from toddlers to 5th grade. We understand that Wednesdays can be a busy day for families, so we've made it easy for you by serving dinner at 6 pm. This way, your kids can come straight from school or after-school activities and enjoy a nutritious meal with their friends.

After dinner, the program will begin at 6:30 pm and run until 7:30 pm. During this time, your kids will have the opportunity to learn about God's love and plan for their lives through interactive games, engaging lessons, and meaningful discussions.

Our experienced and passionate team of teachers will guide your children through age-appropriate activities that will help them grow in their faith and develop important life skills. We believe that learning should be fun and interactive, so we use a variety of teaching methods to keep your kids engaged and excited about coming back each week.

At the same time, we offer an adult program so parents can attend and connect with other adults in the community. This allows the whole family to be engaged and involved in the life of the church.

We are committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for your children. All of our volunteers have undergone a thorough background check and are trained in child safety and protection.

So, if you're looking for a midweek program for your kids that is both fun and meaningful, come join us on Wednesdays! We look forward to getting to know your family and helping your children grow in their faith.
