What To Expect

Most people want to know what to expect when they go somewhere they have never been before or meeting new people for the first time. You probably have questions like….what kind of church is this?…what will we do?…what is worship like?…what about my kids?…where is the church?…will I fit in?…These are great questions!

Rockbridge is a new Christian church that equips people to learn how to, “Love God. Love Others. Walk with Jesus.” Rockbridge is connected with the worldwide United Methodist Church. We are deeply committed to the Christian faith and understanding more fully what it means to not only believe, but also act on faith.

Worship God. Grow in Faith. Help Others. Some will do these things by being a part of Bible study or spiritual exploration groups, while others will be in groups that are focused on playing sports together, working on hobbies together, or doing parenting or single events together. The folks that become a part of Rockbridge will be a part of the legacy of helping get this church off the ground.

Since we just started, we don't have a permanent building. One day we will have a place of our own, but we know a church is more than brick and mortar. The church is the people, regardless of what building they are in. So, Rockbridge Church is for people who want to experience God in a new way, develop or deepen their relationship with God and people, and see God impact your family, friends, and community. If this fits you, then you are the church and the kind of person who goes to Rockbridge Church.

The worship experience will generally be an hour long. The atmosphere will be casual, welcoming, and relevant. You will find electronic multimedia, as well as artistic multimedia, to aid you in worship. You will find a preacher who does not wear a suit, tie, or robe. No one will have assigned seating and you can sit or stand as you are able. While keeping worship in a contemporary setting, we will learn from the Bible and look forward to the “hope of what can be” in our daily living. We want people to be able to leave the worship experience feeling like they have encountered God and are ready to take a step or two closer to being a more faithful follower of His in their day to day lives.

Rockbridge Church is excited about kids! Every time a group of adults meet for study or fellowship, we will make sure the kids have an exciting, and fun experience learning about God and living out the faith with others. We believe your kids will look forward to being a part of this each time you meet, and not dread it.

Rockbridge is a church where you can be yourself and come just as you are and experience being connected, or reconnected, to God. A person who is exploring the Christian faith is no less important than someone who has been in church for many years, and vice versa. We want to be intentional in reaching out to others with the love of Christ and helping people realize their God-given potential.

If you like to dress up, then dress up. If you prefer to go casual and comfortable, like shorts, jeans, sneakers, flip flops, or t-shirts, you can wear those, too. Rockbridge is about people seeking a real experience with God and learning to know Him better and be engaged in the world. What you wear is not as nearly as important as what’s going on inside of you. If that’s important to you as well, then you fit in.
