What To Expect
Most people want to know what to expect when they go somewhere they have never been before or meeting new people for the first time. You probably have questions like….what kind of church is this?…what will we do?…what is worship like?…what about my kids?…where is the church?…will I fit in?…These are great questions!
What kind of church is this?
Rockbridge began weekly worship in September 2008. We are a part of the worldwide United Methodist Church and are deeply committed to Christ and learning what it means to “Love God. Love Others. Walk with Jesus.” God loved us first through Jesus so our goal is to continue to learn the width, depth, and breadth of that love and share it with others.
What will we do?
Worship God. Grow in Faith. Help Others. Some will do this by being a part of Bible study or mission trips, while others will be in groups that are focused on playing sports together, working on hobbies together, or doing parenting or single events together. Christ meets us wherever we are individually and draws us deeper, so we are going to be open to the different ways He meets us.
Where is the church?
The church on Sunday morning meets at Cox Elementary in Cedar Park. The church the rest of the week is wherever you are as a part of Rockbridge. The church is not the building but the people of God so wherever two or three Rockbridge folks are gathered, the church is there. One day we will have a building to call our own, but right now we are being Christ’s Body wherever we are. If this doesn’t make you uncomfortable, then Rockbridge might be your “church”.
What is worship like?
Casual, welcoming, and relevant. You will find a preacher who doesn’t wear a suit, tie, or robe. No one will have assigned seating and you can sit or stand as you are able. Each week we will learn from the Bible how God meets us in our daily living and celebrate communion. Chad Chaney (www.thechadchaneyproject.com) and our band lead us in praising God, and multimedia aids us in singing the songs. The goal of worship is to honor and revere God and leave ready to face the world with His help. Each week we keep this in mind.
What about my kids?
Rockbridge Church is excited about kids! Each Sunday during worship we have Kids Zone for infants to pre-K led by great teachers who lovingly take care of your babies and teach them on their levels that God loves them. We have Children’s Church for K-5th each Sunday during worship. After the 2nd song the kids leave and have a fun and exciting multimedia experience learning about Jesus and living in Him. The kids then return in time to celebrate communion with the church family at the end of the service. Youth (6th-12th) meet every other week on Wednesdays, and this summer will go on a mission trip to East Texas.
Will I fit in?
Rockbridge is a church where you can be yourself and come just as you are and experience being connected, or reconnected, to God. A person who is exploring the Christian faith is no less important than someone who has been in church for many years, and vice versa. We want to be intentional in reaching out to others with the love of Christ and helping people realize their God-given potential.
If you like to dress up, then dress up. If you prefer to go casual and comfortable, like shorts, jeans, sneakers, flip flops, or t-shirts, you can wear those, too. Rockbridge is about people seeking a real experience with God and learning to know Him better and be engaged in the world. What you wear is not as nearly as important as what’s going on inside of you. If that’s important to you as well, then you fit in.
